New weekly Sunday Market to launch in Ely

On Easter Sunday 5 April, shoppers and visitors to Ely’s Market Place can witness the beginning of something new.

Ely’s Markets are expanding with a new Weekly Sunday Market which will take place every Sunday throughout the year (except Remembrance Sunday and seasonal adjustments around Christmas and New Year).

The new market, which opens at 10am until 4pm, will bring together the best of the former flower, food & craft market along with a great mix of stalls, family entertainment and attractions.

As well as the great stalls and food on offer there are attractions and entertainment for younger members of the family to keep everyone happy.

Cllr Hamish Ross, Service Delivery Champion: Markets & Town Centres at East Cambridgeshire District Council, said: “The monthly Flower, Food & Craft Market was such a success that we felt the demand was there from both shoppers and traders to add a weekly Sunday Market to our calendar. With a fantastic range of produce from seasonal flowers to interesting curios and bric-a-brac, there will be something for everyone’s tastes. Alongside the amazing crafts, there will also be a delicious selection of food including artisan bread, cheese, cakes and pies either to take away or feast on while you walk around the market.

“By expanding the markets in Ely, the District Council is delivering the services which people have asked for and need. Adding another day to the market calendar will give local traders the chance to sell their produce and we hope it will create the footfall to encourage other shops and stores in Ely to open. Our aim is to help Ely and East Cambridgeshire grow and we will look at introducing increasingly innovative ways of doing this. With plenty to see and do, we hope to see plenty of people at Market on Easter Sunday and the Bank Holiday Monday.”

On Bank Holiday weekends, the Sunday Market will extend into the Bank Holiday Monday for even more choice and attractions for all the family.
