Animated Film About Recycling
What can Recycling Centres do for you on the Twelfth day of Christmas?
On the Twelfth day of Christmas, the nine Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC) in Cambridgeshire are the place to show your true love for recycling.
Over the festive period, the centres have been the busy as residents have been bringing along old items – which have then either been recycled or are available in the centres’ resale areas.
For example, in the last couple of weeks the following have been left: a Clay pigeon trap, a marble clock, an aluminium drinks bar, two pairs of skis and a dining room table.
To help residents know what can be taken to the centres, how they work and the help which is available, a new film has been launched and can be seen at www.recap.co.uk.
The film – which sees the return of animated characters first seen in local waste education videos last year – explains how to make the best use of the centres in Cambridgeshire and help to reduce the amount of waste which goes to landfill.
Currently the centres recycle 79 per cent of the materials which are taken there, reuse over 475 tonnes of good quality items, and have 22,400 visitors during an average week.
The launch of the new film also coincides with an update of ‘Revive’ – an on-line scheme which gives local residents the opportunity to buy good quality second-hand goods from the Witchford HWRC via a dedicated website. The 12 items most recently collected items will be uploaded to the website today and can be viewed at http://witchford.revivemarketplace.com/
Cllr Roger Hickford, Chairman of RECAP, said: “In Cambridgeshire, we have extremely good recycling rates with residents and communities being extremely good at reducing the waste they produce and reusing many items. However we all know we can do more which is why we have produced this new film to help the public understand how our Household Recycling Centres work and more importantly what you can take to there. We hope the new video will encourage residents to make a New Year resolution to recycle even more of their waste than before to help make a real difference to the world they live in.
Will Fairham from Amey said: “Our aim is to help local residents reuse and recycle more. The new Revive project is a great way to put your unwanted items to good use, while the film encourages everyone to think about how they can better recycle their rubbish at Household Recycling Centres.”

As part of the Revive pilot, any items donated and dropped off at Witchford will be logged on the website –www.revivemarketplace.com. Items are displayed on the website in easy-to-follow categories, with the option for other people to then reserve them. Once reserved, residents will have two days to visit the Revive area at Witchford and buy/collect their item.
