National Mills Weekend
National Mills Weekend
The National Mills weekend is being held all over England on Saturday May 9th and Sunday May 10th. Some mills are opened only on one day while others are open on both days. Opening times may vary at each mill. Some are not normally open to the public but have done so for this special weekend.
The National Mills Weekend was started in 1984 by The Mills Section of The Society for The Protection of Ancient Buildings its aim is to encourage people to visit and explore our milling heritage by visiting wind and watermills that stand around the country. Here are those that stand around the city Of Ely in Cambridgeshire.
The Wicken Corn Mill
The Wicken Corn Mill was built in the nineteenth century and was used, as its name suggests, as a corn mill. When it ceased trading as a corn mill it eventually fell into disrepair, but was saved by the Wicken Partnership. Today it stands again as proud as it once did.
