HAVE YOUR SAY ON BUILDINGS OF INTEREST AROUND EAST CAMBS

On 01 August East Cambridgeshire District Council are launching a public consultation to hear your views on their draft ‘Buildings of Interest’ register.

In 2014/15 they asked you to nominate buildings and structures near you which you thought might be of particular architectural or historical interest, or which may have links to notable people. These have been considered and whittled down to a total of 95 buildings and structures of interest – and now they want to hear your thoughts on those chosen.

The register will go live on the Council website on 01 August, where you will find the ability to feedback your thoughts on the buildings and structures nominated, as well as any more information you might have on the age, history or story of the building or structure.

Those on the register include houses, pubs, shops, religious buildings and military structures. The register, once finalised, will be ‘adopted’ by the Local Planning Authority and when a planning application is received that will affect a building or structure on the register, this will be a material planning consideration when Officers are considering the proposals.

The Council is, as part of the consultation exercise, contacting all owners of any nominated buildings and structures to advise them that their properties have been put forward for inclusion and to provide them with information explain what this means for them.

Lis Every from East Cambridgeshire District Council said: “We have had some fantastic nominations; our area really is full of interesting buildings each with their own unique story. We want to make sure that any future planning decisions take these buildings into consideration, and that’s why we’ve compiled this register. But we want your opinion and any other information you may have, so please get involved!

She continued: “Being on the register does not mean that restrictions are placed on the owners of the properties however, it is more about the environment surrounding the property – we aren’t going to start telling people what they can and can’t do with their property, we just want to help protect it for future generations to enjoy as we do.”

The consultation will run for six weeks and those interested in taking part can visit the website to have their say:http://www.eastcambs.gov.uk/conservation/buildings-local-interest
