Ely Consort Concert of Advent Music Saturday 28th November 2015.
Ely Consort return to Ely Cathedral to perform a concert of Advent Music centred around Alan Bullard’s new Advent Cantata ‘O Come, Emmanuel‘. Recently written for the Chapel Choir of Selwyn College, Cambridge, this work combines the great Advent hymns (including ‘Come, thou long-expected Jesus’, ‘Joy to the world!’ and ‘Lo! He comes with clouds descending’) and arrangements of some traditional Advent carols (including ‘The Angel Gabriel’) with completely original music. Bullard’s music is very melodic and this piece will be an appealing start to the Advent season.
We will be accompanied on the Cathedral organ by Edmund Aldhouse, Ely Cathedral’s Assistant Organist.
The concert will also include the first performance of the winning entry for our inaugural composing competition – a UK-wide competition to write a new piece of Advent choral music:
Congratulations to Edmund Jolliffe whose composition entry for our Advent Composing Competition, ‘Jesus Christ the Apple Tree’, was chosen as the winner by the choir.
Congratulations to Ji Heng Lee, whose composition entry for our Advent Composing Competition, ‘Maranâ Thâ’, was chosen for a special award by the choir.
We are delighted that both Edmund & Ji Heng will be able to join us and we hope that you will be able to as well to celebrate the start of Advent in choral style!
