Boost to Businesses Operating in Soham

NEW TOWN TEAM SET TO BOOST BUSINESS IN SOHAM

A team of town ambassadors are set to provide a boost to businesses operating in Soham.

The Soham Town Team plan to make the centre more attractive to customers, increase footfall and improve facilities as part of a one year action plan.

The strategy has been written with the input of 20 shops in the area, who would like to see more promotional events and activities in the High Street

The first initiative will involve Soham Pumpkin Fair, an established annual event and a highlight for the town.

Previously shops in the area have never played an active part in the event but this year they will be encouraged to dress their windows and run a raffle.

Councillor Carol Sennitt, chair of Soham Town Team said: “We are very much hoping that the shops and businesses will get behind our first promotional activity and dress their windows as this will create such a visual impact.

“The team will be working hard to encourage their fellow shopkeepers to put their creative hats on and make this launch event the talk of the town.”

East Cambridgeshire District Council is working with Soham Town Council to roll out the Town Team partnership which follows the government’s national review of town centres by Mary Portas.

The Soham team members all represent shops or businesses and will be following in the footsteps of the successful ventures already established in Ely and Littleport.

The Soham Town Team’s action plan includes a strategy to improve communications between businesses, establish a programme of events, activities and promotions and improve its on-line presence.

It is also looking into the feasibility of introducing a market and will undertake a review of the general appearance of the town centre.
