Libera in concert

Libera Concert – Ely Cathedral – Saturday May 12th

Libera Return to Ely Cathedral

Local audiences are in for a real treat on Saturday May 12th, when boys’ vocal group Libera returns to Ely Cathedral for its one and only 2018 UK spring concert.

Libera has been stunning audiences across the world for many years, with its amazing choral sound that mixes ancient and ultra-modern, its boys in their long white robes and its astonishing lighting displays.

The effects in the magnificent architecture and acoustic of Ely Cathedral are breathtaking.

The group has made frequent appearances on UK TV programmes such as Songs of Praise and Last Choir Standing, won the Saturday night show ‘When Will I Be Famous?’ and had a whole documentary devoted to them on BBC-TV’s ‘Songs of Praise’.

The boys are regularly to be heard on Classic FM and have scored several Christmas top classical downloads at iTunes.

The video of fans lining up to have their photos taken with them in Japan has to be seen to be believed.  Yet these are ordinary boys just seven to sixteen years old, who come from South London who go to ordinary local schools.

The concert is on Saturday 12th May at 7.30pm and tickets, costing £35 or £25 (concessions are available).  They can be obtained by calling Ely Cathedral box office on 01353 660349, emailing box.office@elycathedral.org, or by booking online from www.elycathedral.org/events.

About Libera

The singers of Libera, aged seven to sixteen, attend schools in London, and come from a variety of backgrounds. Familiar to audiences across the world, the boys have an original sound, which is at once both ancient and modern. Their distinctive white robes symbolise the traditional origins of their style – yet their music reaches across the generations to a new mainstream audience. Libera’s success in album charts around the world, with more than 40 million hits on YouTube, bear witness to the extraordinary appeal of this unique ‘boy band’ and they have attracted an enthusiastic fan base in many countries, particularly in the US & Canada, Russia, UK, Japan, China, the Philippines, Taiwan, Singapore and South Korea.

Libera is known to British audiences through TV appearances and staged concerts at venues from the South Bank and Westminster Cathedral in London to concert halls and cathedrals across the country. Libera has made many television appearances, including BBC TV’s ‘Last Choir Standing’, on which the boys were featured as guests. They were winners of the Saturday night show ‘When Will I Be Famous’ and had a whole documentary devoted to them on BBC-TV’s ‘Songs of Praise’. The boys are regularly to be heard on Classic FM and have scored several Christmas top classical downloads at iTunes.

Through their involvement in Libera, the boys have travelled the world, recorded movie soundtracks and CDs and served as backing singers to mega-stars. But, as one of the boys said, “The travelling and filming is fun but even if we didn’t go anywhere I’d still want to do it because I just love singing.”
