The John Barnard Memorial Event – Sunday July 19th 2015
This event is named after John Barnard who grew up in the village of Cottenham and who at a young age became interested in the sport of shooting, an interest which continued for the rest of his life In the late 1970’s he began clay
shooting and competed many times for Cambridgeshire in both regional and national competitions winning a number of prizes along the way. He also taught others to shoot some of who would later be chosen to compete for
England. In February 2014 john became ill with pancreatic cancer but would not let this rule his life and used a wheelchair to continue his shooting. Sadly john died in February 2015 and it would be nice to think that this one
off event could become yearly as a memorial to a man and his great shooting talent.
