Clunch Parsons Reads the Weather

It's alot COOLER in Ely today than it was yesterday...
It's like Summer's come back..!
Unfortuantly,
ntl: also lingers on...& on..!

ntl: WORKERS STILL BITING BACK..!
Full Story & Picture..!

ntl: workers today "hit back" at Ely's premiere Internet website www.ely.org.uk for the recent story about themselves and the local housewives..!

Fed up with hassle from the jealous local husbands a spokesman for the ntl: workers (pictured left) decided to give an exclusive interview to hopefully clear the tension on The High Barns Estate..!

"We don't want your women", said Quinton, "Most of us are Glad to be Gay and the last thing we need is to fall out with the 'ansome guys on the estate..! As far as the women go I haven't seen a decent one since we started working here"

Well with that cleared up we all hope that the ntl: personnel can concentrate on getting the cables laid rather than the local females, or males for that matter and "be gone" as soon as possible..!

What they really say..!

as an ntl: employee, and one of many who live in Ely, I wanted to pipe up (no pun intended).
Firstly, yes it is an inconvenience with noise and drive access, etc difficult, however once completed "the gold" is then in the ground.
The amount of benefits from the new technology that can be delivered over a fibre optic cable are significant. I think it's fair to say that whether we love it or hate it, communication technology flowing into homes & businesses is an essential everyday service/commodity rather like other services such as Gas, electricity, etc
When our ancestors met at the well, I wonder if they said, 'There's Anglian Water digging up our streets, making such a mess'!

And in Canada they say..

Of course I know nothing of the annoyance over there,in dealing with the upheaval of the road system. But surely a little patience will result in a better service to everyone. Here in our little Canadian town, all our electrical and electronic services are supplied by a mess of wires dangling from ugly posts along our streets. The telephone lines, the electric cables and the T.V. cables all combine to make continuing rows of tangled "rat's nests" spoiling the appearance of our lovely trees and gardens. I do so wish some back-hoes would come along with a bunch of muscular workers and dig up our street for a while and we would be relieved of this unsightly and CONTINUING annoyance for ever!
So Eleans , gripe no more and enjoy a fully serviced and clean environment...

AND IN ENGLAND THEYR'E GOING MENTAL..!

Crazy. Five weeks they've been down our tiny, tiny road. Today it was clear they'll be there for some time to come, and still they huff and puff when I ask them to move those bloody red and white boards from my driveway so I can reverse out. Sheeez. And 'gold in the ground'? A friend of mine found his gold in the ground when digging over his flower borders. Silly of him to try and dig 3 inches down in his own garden I suppose. It reminded me of the time 3 or 4 years ago when we had Cambrodge Cable installed. When I did the first lawn cut of the spring I found all the cables looped in and around the long grass. So, if you do get it installed, watch 'em like hawks. Al

They have finished the trench across the road outside our house and now it is subsiding under the weight of traffic. Steve G.

I have no desire to take up their marvellous offer of wall to wall mind blowing cable TV (topless darts, appalling sports coverage, and repeats of I Love Lucy). I'm sure in years to come we will be so grateful that we endured months of misery and red and white boards. If they can tell me that the ironing will be carried out by fibre optics or the hoover will take instructions from my PC then they can come around and lean on shovels to their heart's content. H.

C'mon, Lee, where's all those lovely photos you used to take for the Ely site? I'd love to see something other than Jacko-me-lad of NTL. He isn't even 'ansome - I'm sure all those jealous husbands needn't worry - the ladies in Ely have much better taste! Pam.

I made the mistake of letting the NTL muppets into my house so that I could have a cable phone line laid and the free months offer of telly! That was Sat 26th Aug. The highly skilled (?) workmen (who looked like they would have been more at home out stealing cars) managed to put 2 staples through the cable for the phone so that was dead when they came to test it. They still have not got their act together and been back to put it right despite many phone calls (on my BT Line! Fingers crossed for Friday morning!) As for the telly programmes - 54 channels of complete excrement!

See editor's page for the latest pic of the Tinker of Ely ain't a pretty site is it? Sends a shiver. Mind you, once we're all NTL'd up we won't want to go out will we? We'll be able to sit at home watching pro-celebrity lawn mowing, safe in the knowledge that we need never interact with other people ever again
