Tom Dalpra's "Stranger Than Fiction"

Stranger Than Fiction – Because the news is unbelievable.

Yes folks. Get your head around it. We're with Al Qaeda on this one.

The latest tragi-action-comedy that is: Libyan Spring 2011 [Gadaffi's last stand - starring, Colonel Gadaffi, David Cameron, Baz Obama, Will Hague and a cast of shouty blokes with AK47's held together with sellotape]  reaches a key moment, as the rebels retreat 'enthusiastically' in a cloud of dust, on the north coast, road.

Meanwhile, juxtaposed to this on Sky News they keep running the film of Prince Harry in a big orange jump suit, 'monkeying around', pushing his friend into the icy Arctic water, prior to a charity trek for injured service men and women. Blatant, propaganda for you - aligning an Establishment figure (Harry) with the injured soldiers, to legitimise war. The orange jumpsuit...that got me...not that I'm saying it's even deliberate, but the famous Guantanamo suit came to mind. In view of that terrible place they set up in Cuba in 2002, (outside US legal control. so as to allow otherwise illegal human rights abuses of war prisoners) the image of soldiers who were injured in Afghanistan, laughing around in orange jump suits, is certainly, in one sense, an antidote to the one of young men, hooded, and kneeling in them.

Harry & His Chums

Anyway, while the witless Harry is used as a pawn in the game on the grand chessboard (his brother's Royal Wedding coming up soon too, to stir our patriotism), the old United Kingdom of Libya flag, is flying in the oil-rich east of that country. We may be in a recession here, public services are being cut, the middle being squeezed, but, by jingo, old boy, there's a powerplay going on in North Africa, and old imperial powers are shifting some heavy machinery. And in this theatre of war, there's plenty of black gold to grease the skids.

The Qatar oil connection and Gaddafi's legacy.

'After World War I and the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, Qatar fell within the British sphere of influence and the first onshore oil concession in Qatar was awarded in 1935 to British Petroleum's predecessor, the Anglo-Persian Oil Company'. (Today it's known as QP). Forward to March 29, 2011- Eastern, oil-rich, Libya is in 'rebel' hands and exports start through QP, this week..
Libya produced about 1.6 million barrels of oil per day before the crisis, or almost 2 percent of world output. Most of the oil is in the east, but sanctions and the lack of a marketing operation have stopped anyone selling it abroad. Now, in 'rebel' hands, a deal has been done, the sanctions have been lifted and they're up and running with a ready-made marketing operation through the Qatar connection. Brilliant!. That was quick. Before the revolution was even over! They've also set up a central bank to handle all the money. The rebels have looked impotent against Gaddafi's fire-power and, on the face of it, their future is uncertain, yet, they've already set up a new oil company and a new central bank...

It is worth noting at this point, as some counter to his current demonisation in our mainstream media, that, although Gaddafi has recently cooperated with the U.S. and other European governments, he's an independent and an anti-imperialist leader, who hasn't been all-bad for his country. After liberating Libya from the rule of the imperialist stooge King Idris El-Senusi in1969, he nationalised Libya’s oil and used the revenue to free Libya from the clutches of imperialism-induced poverty.  Under Gaddafi,  'Libya had a medium-high per capita income of 12,000, six times greater than that of Egypt' (IL Manifesto, 25 February 2011). Gaddafi used the oil revenue to raise the living standards of Libyans and Libya has the highest Human Development Index (HDI) of any country in Africa. The Great Man-Made River is a vast network of pipes that supplies water to the country. It's the world's largest irrigation project; a great feat of engineering and has been achieved without the need for crippling foreign loans.
Hopefully, after liberation from Gadaffi, they can keep developing without getting in debt.

'Oooh, we've just found out who the rebels are'.

So who are these gallant rebel democracy lovers that we're trying to help to overthrow the latest bogeyman, and who we've apparently helped set up an oil operation.? Well, we were shown a few 'enthusiastic' guys, but this, from the out-set, alarming group of men, who, any sane person considering the ranting, raving and constant firing of guns in the air would only get as far away from as possible and ask: 'Who are these idiots?', were not really identified yet. Ludicrously, nearly two weeks after the campaign started, David Cameron said, on Tuesday, that they'd only 'just found out who the rebels were' and it was, 'good, to be talking to them'! This ridiculous idea appeals to a very simplistic view of world affairs and was patronisingly fed to the masses via the establishment's suited frontman, as the 'story'. 'Oooh we hadn't met any until yesterday'. It serves as a bit of a cover for the inevitable big question that's going to come:  'Why are we supporting Al Qaeda?'

The RebelsBecause, YES, ladies and gentlemen, of course they know who the rebels are, and, hold on to your hats, here's the big one.....WE ARE WITH AL QAEDA ON THIS ONE! Yes, you heard it here. I'm not saying that all the rebels are al Qaeda of course; not at all,  but some of them are, and we're supporting their cause, 'covertly'. We don't take sides.

A NATO Commander had come out the day before and said rather vaguely, there were 'flickers' of al Qaeda within the rebels. Well, you don't say? The LIFG is an internationally known terrorist group and affiliate of al Qaeda. Famously, ex British Agent, David Shayler said it was part-funded by MI6 and spoke of a failed plot to assassinate Gadaffi in February 1999. After initially letting slip that the earliest Libyan protests were organized by the LIFG, Al Jazeera quickly changed its line to present a heavily filtered account portraying the events as ‘peaceful protests’. To explain away the gunshot deaths of Libyan soldiers during the uprising, the Qatar-based network presented a bizarre scenario of 150 dead soldiers in Libya having been executed by their officers for ‘refusing to fight’. The mysterious officers then miraculously vacated their base disappearing into thin air while surrounded by angry protesters! Off the record, one American intelligence analyst called these media claims an ‘absurdity’ and suggested instead the obvious: that the soldiers were gunned down in an armed assault by war-hardened returned militants from Iraq and Afghanistan….

The fact is, eastern Libya is a known breeding ground for jihadists and islamic freedom fighters. It is thought by US Intelligence, to have sent more suicide bombers to Iraq, than any other place in the world. When Gaddafi said it was Al Qaeda causing the rebellion, he was right, to an extent. The Washinton Post reported yesterday that one ex al Qaeda member estimates there are 1000 jihadists in Libya who have joined the rebellion. It's at least obvious that this rebellion has an Islamist backbone and reasonable to assume, that Libyan fighters who have been carrying the jihad to Afghanistan and Iraq would naturally join the 'Islamic cause' at home.

This from the Washington Post today. 'Darna- Libya. Mr. Hasady's field commander on the front lines is Salah al-Barrani, a former fighter from the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group, or LIFG, which was formed in the 1990s by Libyan mujahedeen returning home after helping to drive the Soviets from Afghanistan and dedicated to ousting Mr. Gadhafi from power. Sufyan Ben Qumu, a Libyan army veteran who worked for Osama bin Laden's holding company in Sudan and later for an al Qaeda-linked charity in Afghanistan, is training many of the city's rebel recruits.'  - There's enough there alone, for the propaganda machine to spin the revolt as Al Qaeda influenced, if it suited it...

Al Qaeda fighters have joined with the groups, the National Conference for the Libyan Opposition (NCLO) which incorporates the NFSL, which led the rebel violence, and is a known U.S-sponsored armed militia of mostly Libyan expatriates and tribes opposed to Gaddafi. They were originally formed and trained 20 odd years ago in Chad by the US and Israel as reported in a Paris-based African Confidential newsletter in 1989 - apparently.  Funding for the group came from Egypt, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Morocco, at the time. Al Qaeda itself is well documented as being created by the CIA from the Mujahadeen in Afghanistan in 1979 to fight the Russians. It has continued to be a very useful tool, effectively doing the CIA's dirty work over the years as 'friend' and 'foe'.  The whole pretext to invade Afghanistan, for example, was 'tracking them down'. Tracking al-Qaeda, an elite terrorist organisation, down to their elaborate network of caves that...well...never existed. What did exist alongside the taliban, were jihadists, freedom fighters, patriots, idealists, revolutionaries, chancers and impressionable young men with too much testosterone and AK47's held together with tape, who were very enthusiastic and receiving funding. Does that ring a bell?

Bin's Cave
The outrageous claim from The TIMES November 2001

''Today, ‘freelancers‘ in Libya; yesterday, 'terrorists' in the ‘War on Terror.’ Before that, 'allies' against Serbia; in the 80s, 'Freedom Fighters'. The shadowy enemy supposedly run by Osama bin Laden and top jihadists like Anwar al-Awlaki is really an extension of U.S. foreign policy and the Pentagon. Al Qaeda shifts across the geopolitical chessboard at the will of its masters in the allied-international intelligence ring. It is perhaps government’s greatest hoax… but the tactic is one of the oldest tricks in the book for any power-seeking State'' - Aaron Dykes - Infowars.

I imagine those dedicated, professional officers in conflicts like Afghanistan, bravely doing their job, but just never quite understanding what the hell they're doing. Why? Because it's all based on a false premise. When you take the false premise away, the picture is much clearer. Like moving on from a bad relationship with anything, the truth can be difficult to accept but ultimately, sets you free. Al Qaeda is a con.

Obama  deliberately 'let slip' in meetings on Capitol Hill, that he had signed a 'finding' two or three weeks ago. This method effectively authorizes the CIA to overthrow the Libyan government without having to consult with anyone else. Are you serious? A 'secret' order. Not secret now.
British intelligence and U.S. Special Forces have been on the ground inside Libya for some time. Officially now. Obama’s action is considered necessary because the  rebels – consisting in part, of al-Qaeda and CIA spawned jihadists – are losing the battle against Gaddafi and his trained military force. They need support.

So what other sort of support is appropriate for us to give the rebels now, do you reckon? I think we should fly in Jim Davidson to do a show for them. The Americans could send Bob Hope (is he still alive?). It might help morale. Are they hungry? Hot-dogs and coke all round, for Mohammed's boys. Yep, it's a mixture of tragedy and comedy over there on the North coast road. The same people we're manfully trying to kill in Afghanistan, we're arming here, in the name of saving them from slaughter.

If that makes any sense.

Bob Hope
The road to Benghazi? Bob Hope flown in to entertain 'our'  boys?

Postscript:
The CIA has, since its inception under the National Security Act of 1947, been responsible for overthrowing many governments and messing seriously in their internal affairs – Countries on the list include: Indonesia, Chile, Greece, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Angola, El Salvador, Haiti and dozens of others. This orchestrated overthrow of governments is usually accompanied by considerable violence. The CIA’s involvement in the Indonesia coup, for example, resulting in the murder of more than a million people – is well documented.

As Murder Inc is sent in to Tripoli,  we can only hope this one passes with minimum human suffering and that when the dust settles, a civil war doesn't follow. But, as I advise anyone concerned about C02 emissions - don't hold your breath.
