Fancy stretching your legs this half term?
Anyone who wants to see the best of Ely this winter can sign up for two guided walks this February half term.
The walks will involve delving back into the city’s past and learning more about the buildings and landmarks which have contributed to Ely’s historic role. These include:
* Guided Monastic Tour of Ely - Saturday 18 February at 11.30am
Discover and explore the ground of the largest groups of medieval monastic buildings still in use within Western Europe and listen to tales of monks and royalty.
* Guided Riverside Walk - Sunday 19 February at 11.30am
This walk takes in the city centre as well a picturesque waterside with some stunning riverside views.
Tracey Harding, Tourism & Town Centres Team Leader at East Cambridgeshire District Council, said: “Our guided walks are a great way to learn about Ely’s heritage – how the modern world which we live in was shaped by the past. It is easy to be in awe of Ely Cathedral but there are a number of buildings which are hidden away and off the beaten track which have a huge historical significance for the city. So if you want to learn more about the Ely the cost of a guided walk is a bargain £2.50 to learn about our wonderful city.”
All tickets for the walks are £2.50 person. Tickets need to be pre-booked and can be obtained from Ely Tourist Information Centre at Oliver Cromwell’s House. Walks are subject to cancellation due to adverse weather conditions.
