| Following
the trauma of the 2000 Folk Weekend,
when we had to move to a completely
different site with less than 10 days
notice (because travellers had moved
onto our regular one!), we decided to
have a rest in 2001.
With its beautiful cathedral towering
majestically above the surrounding countryside,
the City of Ely lies in the heart of
the Cambridgeshire Fens, famed for spectacular
sunsets and the vast open sky. What
better location for a weekend of the
best in folk music and dance!
The Folk Weekend will, as in past years,
be based mainly on a single site which
includes marquees, camping facilities,
food stalls, trade stands, real-ale
bar, real toilets, showers, children's
entertainment
. Ely city centre
is less than 10 minutes walk away and
in addition to the Morris displays and
pub sessions during the daytime we are
looking at the possibility of more stalls
and open-air music events in the centre.
We
haven't booked any artistes at this
stage, but you'll be able to find details
as they are confirmed on our web pages.
There's details of last year's Folk
Weekend pages and we'll post the latest
news here as it breaks.(There's also
a link to the Ely Folk Club page) We
apologise to those who were disappointed
to find there was no Ely Folk Weekend
2001 and look forward to seeing you
at the 2002 event. It promises to be
even bigger and better than the 2000
Folk Weekend which, in spite of the
site move, was a tremendous success. |
